The England all-rounder Chris Woakes could miss the home series against New Zealand after having knee surgery that will put him out of activity for up to six weeks. The ECB said on Wednesday that Woakes had "uncomplicated keyhole surgery to his left side knee for a meniscal tear ... damage happened while he was experiencing recovery for his foot harm. His recovery is liable to take a further four to six weeks."
Woakes played in five matches of England's inauspicious World Cup crusade yet was not named in the squad for the voyage through West Indies.
The two-Test arrangement against New Zealand begins at Lord's on 21 May before five one-day internationals.
The five-Test Ashes series against Australia starts in Cardiff on 8 July.
Woakes, 26, has played four Tests and 34 ODIs.
